What is meant by STI testing?

STI testing (Sexually Transmitted Infections) includes tests for detecting HIV, hepatitis, and syphilis, but also includes diagnostics for other common sexually transmitted infections like gonorrhea ("the clap") and chlamydia infection.

Especially with symptoms, frequently changing sexual partners, or unprotected intercourse, these examinations should be an important part of your health prevention. We also point out the option of HIV prevention (see PrEP).

Furthermore, when desiring clarity in, for example, a monogamous relationship before the first unprotected sex ("we both want safety"), we also offer STI tests without specific medical indication as a self-pay service.

    VACCINATION SCHEDULE

    How the Vaccination Works

At avi Medical, discretion and respect are of the utmost importance — including gender fluidity and inclusiveness (e.g. LGBTQIA+). Our STI tests are therefore carried out only after medical consultation in a safe and confidential atmosphere, and following thorough instruction either by the patient themselves (swabs) or by trained staff (blood collection).

Results are usually available within a few days. We also offer rapid tests (HIV), whose results are available within minutes. However, these results must be confirmed by the more reliable laboratory tests.

Our doctors are always available to discuss your results, so that none of your questions go unanswered and you are informed about possible next steps in every case.

    DIAGNOSIS

    Diagnosis & Examination

The combined HIV antigen/antibody test simultaneously detects antibodies against the HIV virus and the HIV antigen p24, and is among the most reliable medical diagnostic procedures available. Its sensitivity (the ability to identify positive samples as positive) is above 99.5%, and it can reliably rule out HIV infection after six weeks as a general rule.

    OVERVIEW

    What it's about

In addition to HIV, we also offer tests for Hepatitis B and C. These tests are important for detecting chronic liver disease at an early stage and treating it where necessary. The procedure is similar to the HIV test and involves blood tests that identify specific antibodies or antigens.

How Much Does the STI Test Cost?

The STI test includes a comprehensive consultation as well as the laboratory tests. During the consultation, a decision will be made as to which tests are appropriate; depending on the selection, costs range between €150 and €350.
