How does an antibody test for immunity work?

The antibody test detects whether your body has formed antibodies against the SARS-CoV-2 virus — through past infection or vaccination. The test is useful for assessing your immune status, planning further vaccinations, or after suspected silent infection. We offer the test in our practice and discuss the results with you.

    DIAGNOSIS

    Diagnosis & Examination

For the test, a venous blood sample is taken; the analysis is carried out within 24 hours in a certified laboratory. This involves an ELISA (Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay) test. It is based on an enzymatic colour reaction that enables the detection of antibodies in the blood.

Good to know: An antibody test is a self-pay service (IGeL — individual healthcare service), meaning the costs are not covered by statutory health insurance.
