    What is yellow fever?

Behind it lies a serious viral infection transmitted by a daytime-active mosquito species (Aedes). Yellow fever disease begins three to six days after infection with severe flu-like symptoms — in serious cases, life-threatening organ failure can occur. Yellow fever occurs in tropical regions of South America and Africa. Many countries require proof of vaccination upon entry. The vaccination provides lifelong protection after a single dose.

    WHO IT'S FOR

    Who Needs This Vaccination?

The vaccination is strongly recommended for travel to risk areas (Africa and Latin America) and is also required by entry regulations in most risk countries for the protection of public health.

    VACCINATION SCHEDULE

    How the Vaccination Works

The yellow fever vaccine is a live attenuated vaccine and should be administered subcutaneously or intramuscularly. Only a single vaccination is required; protection begins approximately 10 days after vaccination. According to the WHO, protection following a single dose lasts for life.

The vaccination is generally well tolerated; occasionally, skin redness, swelling, or flu-like symptoms may occur. In rare cases, neurological vaccination reactions (meningitis) have been reported. However, individuals over 60 should only be vaccinated under strict indication criteria. In this age group, the frequency of side effects increases, and in rare cases, serious adverse reactions have also been reported.

Where Can I Receive the Yellow Fever Vaccination?

You can currently have the yellow fever vaccination administered at our Munich Central Station (Hauptbahnhof), Hofstatt, and Solln practices.
