    Check-up Over 35

Starting at age 35, your health insurance covers a comprehensive check-up every three years to detect risk factors early — actively investing in your long-term health.

    • Covered by insurance
    • Often same-day appointment

What is the Check-up Over 35?

The general health check-up is a structured preventive examination that statutory health insurance covers every three years from age 35. Between ages 18 and 35, you can claim the check-up once. This way, you have the opportunity to actively monitor your health, identify risk factors early, and discuss with doctors about prevention, lifestyle, or possible changes — before symptoms appear.

Who Should Have the Check-Up for Over-35s and How Often?

In principle, this check-up is worthwhile for everyone. From the age of 35, your statutory health insurance covers the health check-up every three years. This gives you the opportunity to actively look after your health, recognise risk factors early, and discuss prevention, lifestyle, or possible changes with your doctors before any symptoms arise.

Between the ages of 18 and 35, those with statutory health insurance are entitled to use the check-up once.

    OVERVIEW

    What it's about

To gain a comprehensive overview of your state of health, your practice team will carry out the following steps:

    1. Medical history (anamnesis): You will discuss with your doctor any pre-existing conditions (personal medical history) and current complaints, if applicable. Family medical history, a social history (e.g. occupation), and your lifestyle habits will also be covered.
    2. A physical examination is an important part of the check-up. Blood pressure measurement is particularly important, as high blood pressure often goes unnoticed. This allows your doctor to carry out a comprehensive assessment of your health and identify potential problems at an early stage.
    3. You will have a blood sample taken, through which the following blood values will be analysed: blood lipids and fasting blood glucose. Since autumn 2021, you can also be tested once for hepatitis B and hepatitis C viral infection.
    4. Urine analysis helps to detect kidney disease or diabetes mellitus at an early stage, before any symptoms arise. Various values such as glucose or protein in the urine are checked. Based on the results, your doctor may recommend further investigations or suggest measures to protect your health.
    5. Your vaccination status will be reviewed during the check-up to ensure that all recommended vaccinations are up to date. Please be sure to bring your vaccination record with you. This allows your doctor to identify any missing vaccinations, recommend boosters, and provide you with the best possible protection against illness.

Optionally, an examination of your skin for any notable changes may also be carried out.

After the examination, your doctor will explain the results to you and address your individual risk profile. Together, you will consider how to prevent the onset of illness. This generally involves developing healthier everyday habits, such as exercise, nutrition, and stress reduction techniques. Information on the risks of smoking and healthy alcohol consumption will also be provided.

If an illness is present or suspected, your doctor will ensure that further targeted diagnostics are carried out and that any medically necessary measures are initiated.

Please remember to attend your check-up fasting.
