What is Hashimoto's Thyroiditis?
Hashimoto's thyroiditis is a chronic autoimmune disease of the thyroid gland in which the body's own immune system attacks thyroid tissue. Over time, this leads to hypothyroidism in most patients. The disease is one of the most common autoimmune diseases and primarily affects women. With consistent hormone replacement therapy, the symptoms can be completely normalized and a normal life is possible.
